Dear Paul and Staff,
I simply cannot begin to thank you enough for the wonderful, caring treatment I have received over the last few years.
I am sure that I must be the biggest wimp in the world and your most frightened patient but I can honestly say that, from the moment I sat in that chair, I was put at ease and felt so safe in the knowledge that your professional treatment would prevail and I would be fine!!
You have all made such a difference to my attitude to dentists and I am truly grateful for the kindness and care given to me.
Thank you so very much for everything.
Yours Aye

Dear Paul,
You asked me to write a few words about my treatment for others to read. I am more than happy to do so.
When my Dentist told me a couple of years ago that the root of one of my front teeth had cracked and could no longer be crowned, he set out the options. At age 50 a plate did not appeal, and as a neighbouring tooth was also crowned a bridge was not advised, so that led me rather reluctantly to consider an implant. I asked who was the best locally, and that led me to seeing you.
I liked the set up at Street Lane, and was impressed by the careful way you explained what was involved, both face to face and also by follow up letter. Nonetheless I was pretty anxious and very disappointed when you confirmed that my upper jaw bone loss over the years meant that I needed a bone transplant. You explained what was involved, and although I did find your confidence reassuring, I was pretty concerned about what would be involved. The idea of taking bone from one place to another, bedding it in, inserting an implant, allowing that to bed in, then building the new tooth in a process taking place over a couple of years was quite alarming!
Nonetheless you seemed quite sure that all this could be done, and I decided to go ahead. That was a very good decision. I found that you showed immense care and consideration at all stages, and I remain so very impressed with your skill.
Two years later and I have a great new tooth. I’m able to smile confidently and eat comfortably – a much better outcome than the previous crowns. The tooth doesn’t quite feel the same as a natural one, but it does feel secure and robust. I did have a scar on my inside lower jaw from the bone transplant, but it is not noticeable now, so much so that it was only when I sat down to write this that I was aware of it at all. My upper gum has receded a little, and I do need to keep it bottle brushed and clean as part of my normal dental hygiene.
All in all Paul, I am really delighted with the result. No one likes dental operations but I don’t think these could have been done with more care and attention. Naturally there was discomfort at times, but at no stage did I feel pain – I did not use the painkillers you helpfully prescribed.
My sincere thanks to you, your nurses and reception I had each time. I am delighted that I went ahead, the two years passed quite quickly, and I have a nice big smile as I write this.
Thank you!
Yours sincerely,
Mr D.B.

Dear Dr Roberts,
I am writing to thank you and your staff for the excellent treatment I have received over the past year.
I was initially apprehensive about the treatment in terms of the pain involved, my particular dental problems and the final outcome. However because you were so approachable and gave a very clear description of each stage of the procedure I felt very reassured and able to proceed. The surgery itself was painless and only mildly uncomfortable. I had very little discomfort afterwards and this was soon resolved with some paracetamol.
The benefits of the implant and appearance of the final crown easily outweigh the inconvenience of the surgery. My new tooth is certainly much better than the original and I hope to return in the future for further treatment.
Thank-you once again,
Mrs Veronica Briston

Dear Paul,
Now that my dental implant treatment has been completed, I wanted to let you know how delighted I am with the result and to thank you and your staff.
When my dentist first mentioned having implants I have to say I was extremely anxious, particularly as I have had a real fear of visiting the dentist since I was a child.
However, I need not have worried. Everyone was so friendly which helped to put me at my ease and even the surgery was not bad at all - not what I was expecting. What little discomfort there was, was very minimal, much to my relief!
It is impossible to distinguish the new teeth from my own home-grown variety, so they have really put a smile on my face.
I am so glad I went ahead with having the implants and I would not hesitate to have additional ones should the need arise. They are definitely worth it.
Thank you again.
Yours sincerely

I was initially referred to Dr Roberts by my own dentist for an implant consultation. From the outset Dr. Roberts was concerned with my safety and the practicality of surgery. In order to ensure the stability of the implants, I underwent a bone scan (this is not necessary for all patients) and once Dr. Roberts was confident that the implants would be successful, the procedure took place.
Throughout the entire process, everything was explained to me and very clear instructions given on how to take care of myself post surgery. This made me feel confident and although I did feel nervous prior to the treatment, during the surgery itself, the only discomfort was keeping my mouth as wide as possible and I did not experience any pain during or after the treatment.
Dr. Roberts and his team are extremely professional and took time to explain what was happening and check that I was comfortable during all my visits. Having the implants has been one of the best personal investments I have made. Having lost 3 teeth in my lower side jaw this had restricted my ability to chew and resulted in a limited diet of “softer foods”.
I can now enjoy a varied diet and do not even think about having implants, everything feels completely natural and normal; for a couple of days I was very conscious of having had the implants fitted, but very quickly adjusted and don’t give them a second thought, apart from following cleaning instructions and ensuring that I look after them.
I do hope that any patient having any doubts about the benefit of implant surgery will be reassured by my experience.
Yours faithfully

Dear Paul,
I just wanted to write and tell you how pleased I am with the implant I’ve had done at your surgery. I have just had the finished crown made and it looks lovely.
As you know this was my front tooth and I did originally consider having a denture. I’m so glad I didn’t now. Even though the whole process was quite lengthy and I had to be without a front tooth for two weeks, it has been worth it. (My friends still cannot believe that I went to work, picked the kids up from school etc, with no front tooth, but I always knew the end would justify the means).
Even though I was understandably a little nervous when I arrived for my surgery, you made me feel at ease the whole time and I can honestly say I’ve had fillings that were worse. I didn’t even need to take the pain-killers you gave me.
I would recommend implants to anyone now and although they are not a cheap option, they are worth every penny.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Claire Bennett

It is almost a year now since Dr Paul Roberts assured me that “I would not know the difference from my original teeth” – and how right he was – they are excellent. It is so good to be able to eat normally again. In fact, I have a better set of teeth in place than I have had for many years.
The actual process of fixing the implants to fitting the new teeth took approximately nine months. The surgery to fit the five implants took approximately 2.5 hours to complete and was not too uncomfortable.
The advantages are too numerous to mention here. I am able to eat normally again; I do not experience any discomfort when eating and feel completely confident as before. I don’t have any pain when eating and my gums feel healthy and strong - just as they did ten years ago.
Dr Roberts has an excellent team and brilliant, state-of-the-art equipment and I would highly recommend the treatment.

Dear Paul,
It is now several months since the completion of my dental implant treatment and I write to tell you how I now feel about the whole process.
I have, I must confess, always been an extremely nervous patient where dental treatment is concerned. Prior to my first visit to your surgery, although I had only ever heard positive information about dental implants I was to say the least apprehensive at what might be in store for me! However, I must congratulate you on the way that the whole process went exactly as you had predicted.
You will recall that the reason I chose implant treatment was that I had a gap with two teeth missing following the extraction of a broken tooth. My own Dentist suggested you might be able to undertake what was a pretty tricky task, and I was very keen indeed to replace the missing teeth with a permanent solution. I am highly delighted at the result of your efforts.
Within a very short period after the treatment, I had virtually forgotten that there was ever a gap there at all! For me, the implants are, frankly, the perfect solution to the problem which I had. Although the whole process does take a few months, and involves several visits to the surgery, it is without any doubt all very worthwhile, and whilst not cheap, it is worth every penny! I found the surgery itself painless, and the way in which you manage to explain exactly what you are doing throughout the procedure is reassuring and it does help to put the nervous patient at ease!
Finally, I would like to thank your colleagues who were always helpful, friendly and efficient – you are fortunate to have such a great team!
Yours sincerely,

To anyone thinking of having an implant:
I am delighted to be able to write that having the implant done was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Having had a back tooth removed left a very large gap which made eating rather laborious and uncomfortable, and I did not want to go down the “denture road” if it could be avoided.
Dr Roberts and his staff were most pleasant, reassuring and welcoming from start to finish. Each step of the process was conducted in a thorough, professional manner and I was given clear explanations along the way.
The implant operation itself was as one would expect of a complicated dental procedure and certainly no worse. Mine was during an afternoon and by the evening I had forgotten about it. The anaesthetic was very effective, and the one thing I had dreaded, i.e. having to keep my mouth wide open for a lengthy period, was solved easily by the use of a special wedge between the teeth. I had no face-ache at all.
Dr Roberts is a perfectionist and took great pains to ensure the implant was positioned perfectly, explaining what he was doing during the procedure. This approach is very helpful when one cannot ask any questions!
Once the stitches were removed, I had to wait a few months for the implant to become solidly encased in bone, then I went for impressions taking, ready for the tooth to be made and fitted. The process seems very long drawn out but for obvious reasons, and the end result is well worth the waiting. It was a magical moment when my new tooth was mounted on the crown, I bit together, and it felt completely natural. The tooth felt as if it had always been there, but of course this one can never rot! I have absolutely no hesitation at all in recommending Dr Roberts and this procedure.

Dear prospective patient,
About four years ago my local dentist said he could do no more for me. He had made a small pallet of false teeth which I could not get along with. My voice sounded strange to me and, in spite of reassurances from friends, I felt very self conscious. Food particles were lodging between the plastic pallet and my gum and all those adhesives I bought from the chemist were not working. I felt very ‘down’. I had always looked after my teeth and here I was feeling like a toothless old ewe. Then my dentist said’ All I can suggest is that you see Dr Roberts – ‘that’s where I’d send my wife if she had your problems’. Knowing that my dentist had a happy marriage of some longevity I took his advice to heart.
I booked an appointment with Dr. Roberts, who examined me and sent me a long and detailed report on my teeth. He explained all the possible treatments and the costs. I thought long and hard before deciding to embark on treatment. The pivotal moment came when one of my sons said ‘I hope you realize Mum – that’s my Ferrari you are spending’. From that moment on I had no hesitation that I was doing the right thing! I would be able to smile again, chew and my confidence would return.
From the first moment I walked through Dr Roberts’s door I felt totally at ease and happy. His lovely team have treated me like one of the family and I thoroughly enjoy my visits. (I speak as someone with a history of negative dental experiences).
I can only admire Dr. Roberts’s surgical expertise. He performs the most intricate surgery, whilst the patient lies there, watching daytime ‘tele’! I felt no pain and had no post-operative bruising. This is SKILL! I speak as a veterinary surgeon. My patients have always been under a general anaesthetic and I know all about post-operative infections, bruising etc. Fortunately for the vet, animals cannot speak and the owners are not present in the operating theatre with them. This highly specialised dental surgery is a very different scenario. I can only reassure you that at Dr. Roberts’s surgery “you are in the very best hands”.
Three and a half years along the line I have my teeth back again! The road has been more complex than I first envisaged – I had to have a bone graft so I could have my front teeth back! So here I am – chewing happily, eating meat again, smiling. If you would like to see my before and after photos, just ask Dr. Roberts. If you would like to see ‘my teeth’ in the flesh again ask Dr. Roberts and I’ll try to help.
So my advice is go ahead – it doesn’t ‘hurt’ – you’ll become an expert on daytime TV and who wants a Ferrari anyway. I’ve got an elderly Skoda and BEAUTIFUL teeth.
All good wishes

Dear Dr Roberts
With my implants now complete I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for an amazing end result.
It was August 2009 that I first visited your surgery. I had three teeth missing and for several months previous to my visit I had been wearing a denture that had been fitted by my dentist. I found this to be extremely uncomfortable to wear but I was not prepared to be without it as I was very conscious of the gap when I smiled and I also found eating to be very difficult without it. I knew I couldn’t carry on with the denture for much longer so I therefore nervously made a decision to go down the implant route. Looking back I never had any reason to be nervous!
When you explained to me that it would be a lengthy process of approximately two years it sounded so far away. My CT scan showed that I need a sinus operation before any implant work could commence as there was some infection on the right hand side, knowing this it felt like the end result was so far away.
The day of the sinus lift came and I had opted for sedation, something that again I was extremely nervous and unsure about, however I definitely made the right decision as the time went so quickly and I didn’t feel a thing! In fact over the two years I visited you I never once felt any pain or discomfort. My sinus operation left me with some bruising but it went as quickly as it came.
After several months I revisited your surgery for the implants to be inserted, this was done under local anaesthetic and all went very well. Around 4 months later the titanium healing posts were fitted, again this was done under local anaesthetic and as before it all ran smoothly.
I was then left to heal for around two to three months before making my final visit to have the posts and crowns fitted. I couldn’t believe at this point the work was completed; it had all gone so quickly. I left your surgery on that day feeling amazing; knowing that I can smile without any gaps showing is life changing to me.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you and all of your fantastic staff for the first class treatment I received throughout my two years. My advice to anyone who is considering implants would be to take the first step because you will never look back.
Yours sincerely

Dear Dr Roberts,
A fortnight ago, I received my new tooth from Mr Ian Cross at Bramhope. It looks fine and I can now smile when formerly I was inclined to leer.
This note is just to record my appreciation for all the work that you did in inserting the implant. That particular day was a major experience, which, though not actually unpleasant, was very unsettlingly invasive. You handled it brilliantly, and I did appreciate the telephone call you made later that night.
So, apart from all the technical skills you used on me, the other thing I appreciated was the care you took of me throughout – not just in relation to the clinical activities, but in the associated administration. Simple things like checking appointments the day before underlined the feeling of being looked after carefully – as well as the practicality of ensuring I hadn’t mucked up my diary. And in this I also have to commend the efforts of Bridget and Lisa, who completed the perfect team.
Hope this doesn’t sound too flowery – but credit where credit is due.
Many thanks once again
Yours sincerely John Pearson York

About implants,
I have had twelve implants in my lower jaw. Now I can eat what I want, bite an apple, chew steak, eat nuts, you name it I can eat it. The operation sounds a bit daunting, but it’s not bad at all. There is no pain, some discomfort after yes, but not a lot. Mr Roberts soon puts you at ease. I felt a prick, closed my eyes, fell asleep and that was it until I was woken up. It takes a while for the gums to heal, but when they do, and you get your implants in, you will be very pleased you had it done, I was.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Mavis Morley

Dear Sir or Madam,
Having completed all the remedial dental treatment the results are both in my appearance and confidence, but equally important my actual bite, are more than 100 fold worth any concern that I might previously have had prior to meeting Dr Paul Roberts.
Up to that point, I had had considerable dental treatment over many years both on the NHS and privately and was somewhat in despair at the thought of losing my teeth. However, from day one of my exploratory examination with Paul I was put at total ease by his professional confidence and reassurance and his extremely pleasant and charming manner. Added to this, throughout my treatment his understanding of any discomfort has always been paramount. Furthermore, I can say, hand on heart, that at no time have I experienced any significant discomfort and even a small injection prick was pre-empted by a numbing procedure.
Apart from several “normal” implants I must make special reference to the four I had on the left hand side of my lower jaw when Paul pointed out, via x-rays, etc, that my jaw bone structure was very limited. Subsequently, it would require the smallest titanium implants the world could offer and he pointed out that this is a very delicate procedure, however this is now 12 months ago and I am delighted to say that I have absolutely no concern or problems about this particular part of his work. I have only required urgent attention on one occasion when a cap came loose due to me being somewhat careless and chewing hard on a toffee. I rang Paul who was only too pleased to help me and fitted me in with an appointment the same day.
I must repeat and emphasise somewhat that I now feel a new woman due to my appearance and confidence and I will be forever indebted to Paul.
I am also pleased to add that my husband, who is 69, has had a similar dentistry work carried out by Paul and, here again, not only is he very proud of his teeth but also for all intents and purposes he has a complete perfect set, equal to that of a healthy 25 year old young man. He has half yearly check-ups with Paul and quarterly sees the Hygienist at the same surgery and, as a couple we are both indebted to Paul and his staff.
Yours faithfully,

Dr. Paul D. Roberts,
Street Lane Specialist Periodontal & Dental Implant Clinic
I have had an implant put in by Dr Roberts and I am very pleased with the result.
We began with assessment of the likely fate of my own tooth (not good) and proceeded to its extraction, the fitting of a temporary bridge and, by stages, to the placing of the implant screw into the old socket and the attachment of a crown to its end.
The whole procedure was carried out to an extremely high standard of care. The “care” in this case being both surgical and personal.
None of the surgery (extraction and implantation) was painful or alarming. The implant session was quite long as there was a lot of checking that all was in the right place but I wouldn’t describe it as at all gruelling. Dr Roberts and his staff were always cheerful and encouraging, ready to explain and at pains to make the procedure as pleasant as possible.
I was so impressed by Dr Roberts’ considerate and careful approach to his surgery that when I had to have a wisdom tooth removed recently I came to him even though no implant was to follow.
Having an implant is a lengthy process as months pass between visits in order that healing can take place, but the temporary teeth are cosmetically excellent (mine was a big front one) and not uncomfortable. To me the end result is almost indistinguishable from the original tooth (both from inside and out). It just feels a little solid when you tap it, that’s all.
I would recommend anyone to have an implant and would consider another if the need arose.

Dear Paul,
Just a short note to thank you for the excellent job that you have done with my new front tooth implant. Even the wife had difficulty in working out which front tooth was the implant!!!
The patience you and your team had to ensure that everything went smoothly and to ensure long term satisfaction was exceptional. From the minute of walking through the front door over two years ago everyone at the practice has been very professional and friendly.
I regard it as money well spent; one of the best investments I have ever made, which says something from an accountant!!!
May I wish you and all your team continued success in the future. I do hope that I don’t need your services again!!!

Having made the decision to proceed with implants, I can only say that my experience was a very positive one. Dr Paul Roberts explained every procedure in detail so that I knew everything that was going to happen at each stage. My biggest concern was the surgery!! Being a nervous person when in the “Dentists Chair”, I was not looking forward to this part! However, I did not need to worry as I was put at my ease and made very comfortable. I can honestly say I remember nothing of the actual process, but was told I was responding to questions. When all was over, and an anxious husband was called to collect me, I was asked “ how long did I think I had been there?” I thought about ½ hour, but had actually been 3 hours! I only experienced a couple of days of discomfort afterwards, and now I have my new teeth and can at long last smile with confidence!!
I must also mention all the staff who work with Dr Roberts. I found them all to be so friendly and caring.

Dear Dr. Roberts,
I must apologise for the delay in replying to your letter requesting my comments regarding the ‘dental implant’ experience. I should perhaps point out here that although I don’t think I am a particularly nervous patient and I positively welcome the approach of a needle fully loaded with anaesthetic for any dental procedure, I do find sometimes myself becoming slightly (and totally irrationally) squeamish during certain dental procedures (such as vibrations from slow drills, scraping and pressure sensations).
The delay in my replying is not at all related to the experience itself; in fact I can say categorically that all aspects of the treatment were totally positive. The caring and patient attitude of all of the staff involved, both reception and medical personnel, which put me totally at ease, was notable. My perception from the start was that I could totally trust everybody and the surroundings were very clean and pleasant.
The treatment itself was certainly no worse, and on reflection, perhaps better, than receiving root canal treatment. Possibly the most arduous part of the whole experience was having to keep one’s jaw wide open, although ‘rests’ were given, and there was no subsequent ‘jaw-ache’. Other than that, the insertion of the implants caused absolutely no pain and no bleeding, and subsequently there was not one hint of swelling or bruising. Painkillers were not required.
For me personally, the most unpleasant part of the whole treatment (and this was a very minor point) was the sensation o the gum being cut and peeled back. There was absolutely no pain associated with this, just a scraping sensation, but for some bizarre reason this did make me squirm a little. Happily, the strategically placed television helped provide a diversion at this juncture. I suspect that my reaction is unusual and that most (or all) other people would not be worried one bit by this part of the procedure.
You asked me particularly to also comment on any parts of the treatment that I was dreading and how those went in reality. Regarding those, for some irrational reason (and probably because I have not ever had stitches before) I was most nervous about removal of the stitches – I think I imagined that I would experience the sensation of the threads being dragged through the gum, but in fact this did not occur at all. I was also slightly apprehensive about having the cast of my jaw taken as previously I have had this process done and the perceived sensation of a rubbery substance sliding from the back of the mould and down my throat has set off the ‘gag’ reflex (slightly embarrassing). However, when I mentioned this, acupuncture was offered, and whether, because of that, or just skill on the part of the practitioner, nothing untoward occurred.
I am extremely happy with the resulting implanted teeth; they look natural and I am totally unaware of them being implants. From the moment they were put in my bite has felt unaltered – and this experience contrasts with crowned teeth, which always seems to take a time to ‘bed in’.
I would also like to comment that during every stage of the process, detailed explanations of the various procedures that were to come were given to me. Additionally, every superfluous question that I asked (such as ‘Why aren’t all of the roots of my teeth straight?’, ‘Why are canine teeth yellower than the others?’) was dealt with very patiently. I would certainly recommend you and your team to anyone that is considering dental implant treatment.
Yours sincerely

Dear Paul,
A message for those contemplating dental implant surgery.
I recently had implant surgery to my top jaw. I had had a problem with my front teeth and the jaw bone. The bone had become less dense and it became necessary to have a bone graft if I wanted to successfully anchor teeth into the bone. I had contemplated the implant for some time, weighing up the benefits and issues between whether or not to have a dental plate or the surgery. In the end I decided on the implant because I wanted as natural an effect as possible and did not like the idea of a denture.
On the day of the surgery all staff treated me with great kindness. During surgery my condition was constantly monitored to ensure I was not in any discomfort and at the end aftercare was appropriately addressed. I did not travel home until checked and ready. I was very pleased with the entire treatment.
During the following days there was some discomfort as the effect of the anaesthetic wore off. I was given a supply of pain-killers as I left the surgery in anticipation of the likely discomfort but was also pleased to receive the follow-up telephone call enquiring as to my health. Good to know someone is there should the need arise. As with any operation there has to be a recovery period as the body adjusts to the work carried out and the new condition. I am very pleased with the outcome and have no regrets about the decision I took to undertake the surgery.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs J. O.

Dear Dr Roberts,
I am writing to tell you how happy I am with my implants. I suffered for years with my bottom dentures as I was never a good patient at the dentist.
From the start of your treatment you instilled me with confidence and I can truthfully say that apart from a little discomfort there was no pain whatsoever.
These implants are like natural teeth and I thank you once again for my new lease of life.

Dear Dr Roberts,
Just to let you know that I remain very satisfied with the dental implant treatment I received from your surgery.
I was very impressed with the careful manner in which the procedure was explained to me beforehand, the skill with which it was carried out and the aftercare I subsequently received.
Indeed, I am hardly aware of the implant, which is no doubt the best result one could have hoped for!

Dear Dr Roberts,
I would like to say how pleased I am with my implants. I am now able to eat whatever I wish and more importantly to flash a smile at last!
To have all this without a general anaesthetic is marvellous. I would recommend the procedure to anyone who is missing teeth.

Dear Jette,
I am writing to express my gratitude for the excellent treatment I have received from your colleague, Dr. Paul Roberts of the Street Lane Periodontal & Implant Clinic, Leeds.
I felt serious apprehension about my decision to have implant surgery after the loss of a tooth. Your recommendation of Dr. Roberts was invaluable. I was reassured by the care and thoroughness of each step of the procedure. I opted, for my own reasons, not to have sedation, so it is even more miraculous to me that I felt no pain during the process or any pain afterwards. I felt utterly calm, knowing I was in the best surgeon’s hands. I suffered no bruising or swelling after the implant and I am sure this is because of his consummate skill. I would not hesitate to have implant surgery again if it were done by Dr. Roberts.
One extra point, I found him approachable and patient when I asked questions. There was a degree of humanity and care for the individual that the medical profession often seems to lack. Information was also given to me in letters so that I could go over the ground again in my own time.
All of this added up to a superb medical experience and one for which I am truly grateful both to you and to Dr. Roberts.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Paul,
It was a pleasure that I at last respond to your request for a testimonial and perhaps help others make a decision.
Most of you reading this will have come to the decision to have dental implants after a long journey of dental experiences. My own being crossed front teeth when I was a child, crowns, bridge, then the last resort; a plate. So, as Doctor Paul Roberts came highly recommended, I decided this was going to be an adventure.
At my very first appointment with Paul every step of the way was explained in understandable detail. Yes it was going to be a long job, a whole year, but I had been told this. The thought of having no front teeth for two weeks was a bit daunting (you soon know who your friends are when you have no front teeth). What is two weeks with a gap in your mouth, when for the rest of your life you are going to smile with confidence?
I can honestly say I did not suffer any pain. I followed Paul’s instructions and have ended up with the most natural front teeth I could wish for.
So if implants are what you are considering, go for it; you will not be disappointed. What a joy to eat apples again!
Yours sincerely

Dear Dr Roberts,
Firstly I would like to thank you and your team for such a superb job that you have carried out in my mouth. It is such a pleasure, after many years of determination to be able to eat normally and feel confident with my mouth in general.
I was a little apprehensive at the outset as to how it would all feel in terms of pain, but it was not at all bad and once the treatment had started I was focussed on the completion in the knowledge that it would be a transformation for me.
I must mention the very calm surgery atmosphere which helps when spending time in the chair, it helped a great deal.
Although a year has passed since first starting the treatment it has gone by very quickly and again the pleasure in not having to cope with dentures is worth every minute of any discomfort, which is short lived.
Once again many thanks,
With best wishes,
Jane Davies

Dear Paul,
Having just had my final check-up visit to your surgery following my dental implant work I felt that I would like to write and thank you for the excellent results achieved.
I have to admit that the thought of doing three implants simultaneously on the upper jaw single did make me a little nervous, even after the very easy implant on the lower jaw. However the experience was not at all difficult despite the long time spent “in the chair”.
It helped considerably having a full explanation from you of the work required at each visit and also whilst the work was actually being done. I found it fascinating as we progressed through each stage.
Please also pass on my thanks to your very professional team, who were both charming and very efficient.
The end result is marvellous – no more dentures and implants that are to me indiscernible from real teeth in every way. I just wish that I had realised the benefits of implants some years ago.
Should you wish to show this letter to prospective patients who may understandably be concerned about the procedure please do so.
Again many thanks,
Kind regards

My treatment with Paul Roberts took two years to complete but that was because I didn’t have enough bone in one part of my jaw so I had to have extra bone inserted into my sinus cavity. Then, even before that could happen, I needed an ear, nose and throat consultation to make sure that there was no reason the bone-inserting procedure couldn’t go ahead.
The point I am keen to make is that Paul Roberts is ultra cautious. He doesn’t go ahead with anything, it seems to me, until he is totally convinced that what he is planning to do will be successful.
Whilst no treatment is absolutely pain free I was never in any real discomfort except for the pretty insignificant sting of injections. My treatment was reasonably serious and necessitated four long sessions in the chair. The worst thing about the first big session, having my sinus cavity opened up and extra bone inserted, was actually the pressure of the back of my head against the head rest towards the end of the session, otherwise it was pain free.
The other irritation I remember was not being able to catch all the test-match action on the ceiling mounted screen because Paul’s arm was in the way.
I am now able to eat at the same speed as everyone else and use both sides of my mouth when eating. I can smile widely again when having photos taken. I have five new teeth that look great against my own. I may be a little poorer but the whole process was worthwhile.
My wife is now looking at the possibility of having some treatment herself.
Yours truly

Dear Dr Roberts,
As you will remember I first came to see you in August 2002 because I was having some pain and discomfort from a lower front tooth which was also giving me other associated pains.
This tooth had suffered from an abscess and as a result had an awful dark appearance and wasn’t really in a good condition. Despite being in my mid thirties I had never had any other teeth problems and had never even needed a filling, therefore desperately wanted to keep this tooth.
I tried several procedures by an Endodontist to salvage this tooth but it became too troublesome in the end and I finally had it removed. This was the best thing that I could have done because that dead, discoloured and rotting tooth could never have given me what the implant tooth has given me.
Now that I have the implant I have a really good colour match to my other teeth and I’m amazed at just how real the porcelain tooth looks, (many thanks again to the technicians for a great job). I’m also totally free now from all the infection and pain from the old tooth.
I also want to thank you once again Dr Roberts for doing a terrific job. I definitely benefited from your reassuring approach and willingness to listen (patiently!!!) and explain (thoroughly!!!). As for the main surgery and the smaller procedures I was pleasantly surprised and relieved that they really weren’t so bad, in fact, during the surgery I don’t think that I felt anything thanks to a combination of anaesthetic and your skill. The next day a few pain killers were all that was required to make me feel comfortable. After that any discomfort quickly disappeared over the next few days.
The final procedure was in August 2004 and I couldn’t be happier with the result, it was definitely worth the wait.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs A.B.

Dear Dr Roberts,
I would be willing to reassure anyone thinking about an implant that the procedure was not painful, and the results were very good.
The initial waiting period from the removal of the broken root to the fitting of the implant seemed to be quite a while. However, I’m glad to say that I had no trouble with the ‘sticky-bridge’ and my patience was rewarded with a completely trouble free implant.
The surgery was straightforward, and caused no problems. I rinsed with salt water after 24 hours as instructed, and had no need to take painkillers.
I was particularly pleased to be involved in the discussions on the procedure, so that I knew what the options were and what to expect.
Following the crown being fitted to the implant, I was aware of the tooth in a way that was different to other crowns I have. For about three months it felt ‘strange’ although not uncomfortable.
However, since that time it has felt completely part of me. It’s nice to be able to smile without worrying about looking gap-toothed, very pleasant to be able to eat whatever I want, and very reassuring to be able to pronounce all my words, especially those with S’s, without showering my friends.
I’m very pleased that I chose to have the implant done and that you agreed to undertake the surgery. Many thanks for all your help.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Kay Andrews

Dear Dr Roberts,
It is now 3 months since I completed my dental implant treatment, and I am writing to you to let you know how delighted I am with the results.
Before commencing the work I was slightly apprehensive about the amount of surgery involved, but I can honestly say that I sailed through everything without the slightest problem.
You were very professional, reassuring and calming, and explained every step of the way to me, which is so important. The results are fantastic, and I would have no hesitation in recommending dental implant procedure to anyone regardless of age. A word of praise also for your staff, they are all very helpful and pleasant ladies.
Kind regards

I would just like to let anyone contemplating a dental implant know of my own personal experience and of how helpful, courteous and sympathetic Dr Roberts and his staff were, and how pain free my treatment was. After examining my mouth taking x-rays, measurements and explaining in great detail what was involved Dr Roberts proceeded with the treatment in two stages. 1st drilling into my jawbone (I found no more painful than having a filling done) to make way for a pillar to be inserted to accommodate my new tooth.
My jaw was then stitched with the new pillar in position. The stitches taken out after a week.
Six months later my new tooth was put onto the pillar in my jaw and stitched into place. Again the stitches coming out after a week.
The whole treatment from start to finish took about nine months and I can honestly say it was a lot better than I at first thought. I would have no qualms about any treatment I may want in the future. Dr Roberts did an excellent job and I’d recommend a dental implant to anyone (beats having a false tooth on a plate any day).

Dear Dr Roberts,
Re: Dental implant work carried out between November 2002 and February 2004
Apologies for the delay in responding to your request to write some comments about my experience of undergoing a dental implant procedure. I hope that perhaps these comments will assist others in decisions about this process and also reassure possible anxieties.
Throughout my life I have been troubled with problems pertaining to my two lateral incisor teeth due their small size and propensity to discoloration. One of which had been crowed twice and the other root filled.
Despite this I was reasonably happy with their appearance and was extremely distressed when unexpectedly the crown became loose and I was informed that the tooth had fractured and it could not be recrowned. I was also quite shocked to hear from Mr Anderson that I would need a denture plate or a bridge which would involve work to the adjacent 2 teeth which were perfectly OK. Mr Anderson suggested that the option of a dental implant might be available to me and gave appropriate advice about seeking a consultation with Dr Roberts an implant dentist from Leeds. I was quite shocked about this and didn’t really know how much about implants and also the initial costs of £3000 plus also seemed high. However I was keen to avoid the other alternatives offered.
Mr Anderson was very helpful and supportive at this time. The problem had arisen at the most inopportune time because I had a most important clinical examination coming up. He was prompt and dedicated to restoring my teeth so that I could sit the exam in reasonable confidence.
I received a temporary bridge which I didn’t like much because it was cemented to the back of my front incisor and felt bulky and strange but I did get used to it. I had a few problems with this because the face of the bridge came off a number of times but this was unique to my bridge I believe and is not normally a problem.
In December I met Dr Roberts and his team who examined my tooth and took x-rays. He and his staff were courteous, professional, kind and informative at all times.
Dr Roberts felt that my tooth was suitable to be replaced by an implant and explained the stages of the process and the time frame. I was quite surprised about the length of time involved, anything up to 18 months in total. I suppose for someone in the midst of an acute problem this can seem a long time when perhaps they want a rapid resolution, but I have to say the time did pass fairly quickly and also allowed for rest between appointments and the saving of funds so that all financial outlay is not all at once. I would say to people that it is quite a lot of money to find, but it depends how much you value your teeth and what your other priorities are, everyone is different. I found it easier to budget for the work over a period of time in fact.
In February I went for the sitting of the implant which is performed under local anaesthetic, I found it quite a long and tiring afternoon but not too uncomfortable. Dr Roberts and his team looked after me exceptionally well and helped me feel relaxed. Some moderate analgesia is needed for a couple of days afterwards but this is manageable. Antibiotics are also given to reduce the risk of infection. The temporary bridge is replaced after the procedure so there’s not much to see. The gum area feels quite tight and uncomfortable for some days afterwards (almost itchy in fact) and I was initially worried that this was a sign of something being wrong but was informed it’s quite normal.
Later in the year I then returned for follow up and to hear the good news that everything looked ok, the implant looked solid and a temporary crown could then be applied. This necessitated more appointments in Leeds. I was really pleased with the temporary crown. I couldn’t imagine how the “real” one could better it really. It matched the colour of my teeth and the style of my other teeth really well. But such temporary crowns are not designed to last hence the need for a more permanent porcelain one.
After another few months I went back to see Mr Anderson who painstakingly undertook the process of arranging for my permanent crown to be made. A photographer from the laboratory came to match the colour and style exactly. I was asked for my opinion and ideas as well. So much attention was paid to detail and care during these procedures. Mr Anderson explained at all times exactly what was happening and again he and his team were exceptionally helpful and supportive.
I now have my permanent crown with which I could not be happier. It feels solid and comfortable. I don’t have to worry about it coming loose or breaking off. It looks great and I have no regrets about the time invested and money spent in the process. If you find yourself in a position faced with options such as mine think about it, don’t be put off by the cost or time involved. You do need patience but I personally felt the end result justified this investment.
Kind regards
Yours sincerely

Dear Paul,
Having completed my course of implant surgery I am happy to share my experience with any of your patients who are contemplating a course of treatment under your care. I was informed by my own dentist that the only way to successfully resolve an infection under a crowned tooth was a dental implant. All other options were discussed and after a period of reflection I decided that an implant offered the best prospect of long term success with regards to keeping as natural as possible my current dentition.
Having been referred to yourself the pros and cons of surgery were fully explained including the possible complications and failure rate which I was pleased to hear was extremely low. The cost was also detailed and the likely extras should any additional treatment be necessary. I am pleased to say that the operation went as planned with no untoward after effects and I was able to drive home afterwards and eat a normal meal once the local anaesthetic had worn off.
Since the initial surgery to put in the metal “rawplug” which would hold the crown I have tolerated the temporary bridge and after removal of this bridge I have had my permanent crown inserted and have not looked back since. No one can tell that I have had implant surgery and I have been very satisfied with the whole procedure. Should anyone be contemplating surgery then I would have no hesitation in recommending it as a very satisfactory way of resolving a problem such as mine. I would also have no objections to the pictures taken of my teeth before and after surgery being used to help patients to decide whether to go ahead with implant surgery.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Michael Wright

Dear Dr Roberts,
I have been wearing my over-denture for nearly a month, and as time goes by it feels more and more like a natural part of my mouth. It is a pleasure to know it will stay firmly in place whether I am eating or speaking, and to discard the inconvenience of using adhesives.
I was rather dubious about the implant operation, but it proved to be not too unpleasant and my gums healed up amazingly quickly.
As time went by I became very interested in the procedure and wished I could see what was going on, instead of just feeling the happenings in my mouth. I must pay tribute to your patience and accuracy for the whole operation is one of precision engineering.
Last and not least I must thank Bridget and Lisa who complete your team so efficiently and always made me feel welcome. In fact I shall always think of your surgery as the happy place where this amazing transformation took place.
With many thanks
